Van build | Which van suits me?

It is not easy finding the perfect van because what do you exactly want? what lengt? a l2h2 or maybe an l3h2 or even a l4h2 or maybe even somthing else? and really how big is your budget?

If you have an big budget and you can buy a brand new van than that is awesome because than you don't need to worry what the owner before you did with the car. But in most cases you buy a secondhand car (or even older).

In this blog i take you through different kinds of vans and what they have to offer!

We made the decision to go for a Vw crafter 2013 L3H2

Why L3h2? After a lot of recherche we decided we want an Crafter or a Sprinter because of the length of the van, we really wanted to make sure we could but all our stuff inside of the van and didn't need to hang our mountain bike on the back or put the surfboards on the roof, so this was why we went for a L3h2 sprinter of carfter.

why a Crafter and not a Sprinter? We went for the Crafter because we liked the look of the front of the van more haha! A Crafter is exactly a undercover Mercedes because when is was working on the van i found Mercedes logo's on some parts. Also when i took the van to the garage they told me it has exactly a Mercedes.

Vw crafter and mercedes sprinter 2006-2017

The Sprinter and Crafter are basically the same cars, like i said before our crafter is an undercover Mercedes. Below in the size charts you can see that their are just a view really small differences.

Pro's

- The length of the Sprinter and Crafter are definitely a big pro! If you compare this cars with a Fiat Ducato you get a lot more length if you go for the L2 or L3.

- Mercedes motors are strong and reliable

- If you are going to travel in Europe it is a big Pro to have a European car, this will give you a lot of good services points.

Con's

- If you want to make your bed not in the length of the van but in the width your bed will only be 173 (after insulation) so this is not comfortable, most people that want to sleep in the width of the van instal flares on both sides to get extra space, this means you need to spent a lot of extra money!

Fiat ducato

A Fiat ducato is also a really popular van for a self build and one of the reasons is because of width of the van.

Pro's

- That the van is really width makes it possible to sleep over the width lengt of the van!

- If you are going to travel in Europe it is a big Pro to have a European car, this will give you a lot of good services points.

Con's

- The length is really a lot shorter than if you look at the Sprinters and Crafters.

So which van suits you?

We talked about the 3 mots used vans at the moment. It will never be easy choosing the right van but now you have a good idea of the space all 3 of the vans have.

Do you want a lot of length than definitely go for a Sprinter or Crafter!

Do you want a width van? then go for a Ducato.

Extra tips:

- We only looked for vans that didn't have more than 150.000 kilometres on the meter.

- Does the van has a lot of dents and rust? than the owner before you didn't look after his car so don't trust it.

- Go online and google and google and google till you find the van that you think fits whit the picture that you have in your head!

- Don't buy the car without taking it for a test drive!

- Buy a car with cruise control it is just so nice! haha!
